Mumbai runway damage: Many flights from Chennai cancelled
Following the runway mishap at the Mumbai airport on Tuesday night, a number of flights that were scheduled to leave for Mumbai and arrive from there to Chennai were cancelled, according to airport officials in the city.

An Air India flight from Chennai to Mumbai that took off with 118 passengers at 10.30 pm had to return back after the pilots got wind of the mishap in the capital city of Maharashtra. The passengers were provided accommodation here until Wednesday afternoon when the flight service resumed.
Besides the Air India flight, at least four other flights that were scheduled to depart from Chennai and another three flights that were expected to arrive from Mumbai were cancelled. All these flights were rescheduled for Wednesday and the passengers were duly alerted, according to airport officials here.
At least seven international flights from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, London and other destinations to Mumbai had to be diverted to the Chennai airport as they could not make a landing in Mumbai. The passengers of those flights were also provided accommodation and later sent to their destination, airport officials said.
