A soldier was wounded after militants opened fire from a distance in frontier district of Kupwara, a defence ministry spokesman said.

The militants opened fire from a distance at Kalaroos in north Kashmir district of Kupwara late last night, resulting in injuries to a soldier, Col Rajesh Kalia told UNI.

However, he denied the reports that there was attack on an Army camp.

Col Kalia said a massive search operation has been launched in the area from where the firing shots were heard.

On August 7, five infiltrators were killed by troops when they sneaked into this side from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Machil sector in Kupwara district.
