BJP MP Sanwar Lal Jat is dead
Former Union minister and BJP MP from Ajmer Sanwar Lal Jat died of cardiac arrest aged 62, a top official at the AIIMS said.
New Delhi
Jat, who served earlier as Minister of State for water resources in the Narendra Modi government, died at 6.15 am, AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria said.
The BJP MP had collapsed during a meeting chaired by party president Amit Shah at Jaipur last month following which he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sawai Man Singh Hospital there.
He was shifted to the AIIMS from Jaipur after his condition turned critical.
"Jat had a cardiac arrest in Jaipur which caused damage to his brain. He was initially admitted to the Sawai Man Singh Hospital and thereafter was shifted to AIIMS.Â
He was on ventilator since then," Guleria said.
He said the BJP leader suffered a couple of cardiac arrests since being hospitalised. He had one again this morning and could not be revived, Guleria said.
Prime Minister Modi condoled the passing away of his former ministerial colleague, saying it was a big loss for the party and the nation.
"Anguished by the demise of MP & former Union Minister, Shri Sanwar Lal Jat. This is a big loss for the BJP & the nation. My condolences," he tweeted.
In his message, Modi said Jat worked extensively for the well-being of villages and farmers.
