New US Consul General takes charge
Robert Burgess on Monday took over as the Consul General of the United States (US) here.

Prior to his posting here, he served as Director of an office focused on regional issues in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the US Department of State in Washington, DC, a release from the US Consulate here said.
His earlier diplomatic posts include Pakistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan among others, it said, adding, that in his pre-foreign service career, he worked as an attorney.
On his posting in Chennai, Burgess was quoted as saying it was “his great privilege to represent the United States in South India, especially at this exciting time in the history of US-India relations.” “I look forward to getting to know Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala and advancing our shared goals,” he added.
Burgess, who hails from Waukegan, Illinois, is a graduate from Colorado College. The new Consul General also has a Master’s degree from the U.S. National War College. He is also an MBA from the University of Texas.
