Aadhaar number not mandatory for death certificate: Government

If an applicant does not know the Aadhaar number or Enrolment ID Number of the deceased, then he/she will have to provide a certificate that the deceased does not have an Aadhaar number to the best of his/her knowledge, the government said. 

The home ministry had said that linking Aadhaar to death certificate will help them establish the identity of the deceased and ensure that they are provided with accurate details. The ministry also added that this eliminates the need for all other documents. 

Aadhaar is a 12-digit bio-metric number that is used to accurately identify all the individuals of the country. In a notification, the Registrar General India (RGI) had stated that Aadhaar number linked death registrations will commence from October 1.
