Instal CCTVs inside district court halls: Supreme Court
In a significant order, the Supreme Court on Wednesday has said that CCTV cameras should be set up in all the district courts.
New Delhi
A bench, comprising Justices Adarsh K Goel and Uday U Lalit, directed the 24 High Courts across the country to ensure that the facility was set up in court halls in district and sessions courts at least in two districts within three months.Â
It also made it clear that the footage would not be available for public access even under the Right to Information act. The Bench added that only such small states and Union territories based on the discretion of the High Courts where it would not be possible to set up the CCTV would be spared from this order.Â
The order came on a petition filed by Pradyuman Bisht for audio-video recording of trial court proceedings to ensure fair trial and transparency.
