CBSE Boards may be put off
The Class 12 board examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) may be postponed this year as the dates of the five state elections coincide with the schedule.
New Delhi
According to officials in the Council For Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, as some phases of elections in UP falls after March, the board is reportedly contemplating to put off the examinations sometime after the poll results are announced. Confirming the development, chief executive CISCE, Gerry Arathoon said: “We will have to reschedule some of our papers as they collide with the poll dates. The new schedule will be announced in 10 or 15 days.”
CBSE exams generally begin on March 1 and end in April. Teachers in Chennai, however, said that only if the results are delayed it would impact the admission process. Postponing the exams by a few days would not be an issue at all. Similarly, the ICSE and ISC examinations, whose dates were declared before the Election Commission announced the polling schedule will now have to be moved to a later date.
Last year in TN due to the deluge in December 2015 there were several appeals to postpone the examinations. The Madras HC was also moved with a plea to postpone the exams. But, the court rejected it. In 2014 too, the CBSE exams were postponed in some states in view of the LS elections.
