Rajini’s ranking up 39 places, but still not counted among India’s top celebs

Despite the success of his latest outing Kabali, which gave superstar Rajinikanth an astounding jump of 39 ranks to claim the 30th rank on the Forbes India Celebrity 100 listing, the Superstar is still not in the top percentile of the list.
Rajini’s ranking up 39 places, but still not counted among India’s top celebs

The Forbes list ranks Indian celebs on earning capacity, and this year actor Salman Khan unseated Shah Rukh Khan to become the top earning celebrity of 2016 with an estimated income of Rs 270.33 crore. Rajinikanth was listed at number 39 with an estimated income of 35 crore.
The veteran actor was ranked No 69 in the listing that was released last year. The other leading names in the list include skipper Virat Kohli at No 3, actor Akshay Kumar at No 4 and MS Dhoni at No 5 chronologically. The Celebrity 100 ranking also lists actors on the parameter of fame, and here too Rajini comes in at number 53. Salman Khan (ranked at No 2) is beaten by cricketer Kohli. In a first, actress Shruti Haasan was ranked higher that her father.
Shruti was ranked No 46 with an estimated income of Rs 6.9 crore while legendary actor Kamal Hassan was ranked No 49 with an earning of Rs 32 crore. Other prominent personalities from Tamil Nadu who featured in the list included music director AR Rahman (Rs 37.5 crore), cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin (Rs 15.55 crore), Dhanush (Rs 28 crore), Suriya (Rs 38.5 crore), Vijay (Rs 24 crore) and Vikram (Rs 32 crore).
The fifth edition of Forbes Celebrity 100 is based on two parameters:
1) Estimates of entertainment-related earnings and
2) Estimates of fame during the period October 2015 to September 2016
  • The magazine attributed the rise of Salman to his box office hits — Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and then Sultan
  • Salman’s estimated total earnings constitutes 9.84 % of the total wealth of the top 100 celebs at Rs 2,745 crore
  • SRK at No 2, has reportedly earned Rs 221.75 crore and also comes at No 3 in terms of fame
  • When it comes to fame ranking, Test cricket captain Virat Kohli is the most popular celebrity
Though Mahendra Singh Dhoni, retired from Test cricket in December 2014, his fame quotient has shot up this year because of the biopic on him, fetching him the fifth position overall in this year’s list.
