However, a defence ministry spokesman, when contacted by UNI, said details about the infiltration bid is being collected. Official sources said that troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) under the cover of darkness in Rampora sector in Uri.

When challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons. Troops also retaliated and in the fierce encounter a militant was killed, they said, adding that there could be two to three more militants in the area.

A massive search operation has been launched in the woods, they said, adding that further details are awaited.
