    Goa government has directed water sports activites in a stretch in Southern part of the state to be stopped during forthcoming BRICS summit as part of the security preparedness.

    The government has also asked fishermen to not operate along Betul mini harbour. In a notification issued here, Captain of Ports Department has directed all the water sports owners operating from Cansaulim to Cavelossim beaches (in South Goa) and in the riverine area to stop the activities from October 14 to 17 due to security aspects. 

    Fisheries Department has also directed closure of Betul mini harbour and disallowed fishing vessels and trawlers from operating in and around Betul. 

    The government has warned to take seriously any violation of its directives. 

    BRICS summit will be held in Goa on October 15-16, during which heads of participating nations will stay in the coastal state. 

    The stretch from Cansaulim to Cavelossim and Betul area are adjacent to hotels which would host the heads of participating nations and other delegates. 

    Police have already begun rehearsals and mock drills as part of security preparedness. 

    Apart from paramilitary forces, Delhi Police are also assisting Goa government in law and order during the high-profile event.
