The rupee today lost 13 paise to 66.55 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on increased demand for the American unit from importers and banks.

Besides, strength in the dollar against some other currencies overseas also weighed on the domestic currency.
Dealers attributed the rupee's fall to increased demand for the US currency and a lower opening in the domestic equity market.
On Thursday, the rupee had closed at 66.42 against the US dollar, ending a 6-day winning streak due to mild demand for the American currency.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell 142.73 points or 0.49 per cent to 28,902.55 in opening trade today.Â
