Seven arrested for sexually abusing minor Dalit girl

Police said on Tuesday that more arrests are likely in the coming days. Those arrested were identified as Anoop Shah (24), Saheed (21), Shamnad (21), Salman (19), Shahnas (19), Soorat (32) and Al Ameen (23). 

The police are on the lookout for one Ameer of Navaikulam, an autorickshaw driver, who is the prime accused in the case. One of the assailants developed an acquaintance with the victim through her brother.

Two months ago, they informed the girl that her brother was in a drunken state at a liquor bar at Attingal and asked her if could take him back home. After arriving at the spot, she was forcibly taken in Ameer’s vehicle to a deserted area in Velloorkonam, where she was raped, the police said. 

The act was filmed in a mobile phone, which was used to blackmail the victim. The girl was offered to several others in the next few days. The incident came to light when the accused abandoned the victim after a few members of public attempted to intervene.
