Speaking during Question Hour, Health Minister JP Nadda said further registration of 100 medical professionals convicted under the Act had "Either been suspended or cancelled by the State Medical Councils concerned."
Quoting from the National Crime Records Bureau, Mr Nadda said 50 cases of female foeticide had been reported from across the country in 2014.
Assuring members that action had been initiated against doctors as well as family members for taking recourse to female foeticide, he said the sex ratio had improved but more work needed to be done exhaustively.
On raising awareness to prevent sex determination tests, Mr Nadda admitted there was a need to sensitise girls and women on the issue. The Women and Child Welfare Ministry too was also raising awareness through its 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign.
