'Spirit of India' run reaches city
The 'Kanyakumari to Kashmir' run, being undertaken by Australian athlete and former member of Australian Parliament Pat Farmer, aimed at raising funds for education of Indian girls and strengthening ties between India and Australia, reached the city today.
The marathon run began from Kanyakumari on January 26.
Speaking to reporters at Talapady on the Kerala-Karnataka border, Farmer said India is a glorious country with unique and colourful art forms, different religions and customs.
The run was organised to raise funds for the education of girl children and strengthen the Australia-India relationship, he said.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim and Superintendent of Police Sharanappa welcomed Farmer and his team to the district with bouquets.
The marathon will cover 4,600 km across the length of the country.
