    No news about flood relief: Gogoi

    Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi slammed the Central government over various issues, including “curtailing” of Special Category status for the state and non-receipt of any special flood relief funds. “Unfortunately, state has not yet received any special financial assistance from the Central government.”

    Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy appreciated the state government’s endeavour to develop the state on par with others. Addressing the people at the Assam Rifles ground in Agartala after unfurling the Tricolour, Roy appealed to the people to work with the objective to make Tripura a developed state. 

    Roy said railway tracks from Dharmanagar to Agartala would be converted from narrow gauge to broad gauge by this March while a new broad gauge line would be laid up to Udaipur in Gomati district by this year end. 

    While Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki unfurled the national flag at a function held in Chandigarh, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal unfurled the flag at Bathinda as Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was indisposed. As per doctors’ advice, the Chief Minister had cancelled his pre-scheduled visit to Amritsar where he was to unfurl the National Flag and participate in the Republic Day celebrations. 

    Mehbooba attends Republic Day function: 

    PDP president Mehbooba Mufti made her maiden appearance at a public function since the death of her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed by attending the Republic Day parade in Srinagar. Mehbooba, who wore black shades and her trademark long gown, attended the parade at Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium. This was the first public appearance of the PDP president at an official function since Sayeed’s death. Mehbooba has been confined to her Gupkar residence since January 7, following which she left the house only twice – on January 10 and January 15 - to offer prayers at the grave of her father. 

    Rule of law in Bihar: 

    Governor Ram Nath Kovind said in Patna the rule of law prevailed in Bihar and reiterated the government’s commitment to continue to deal firmly with organised crimes. Unfurling the national flag at the historic Gandhi Maidan, Mr. Kovind said the state government was firmly implementing legal provisions and lawful procedures without any bias.
