Beedi tycoon Mohammed Nisham of Kerala has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the District Sessions Court, after he was found guilty in the murder case of Chandrabose, a security guard at Sobha City, a luxury apartment complex in Thrissur.

He was also awarded a consecutive sentence of 24 years for charges other than murder. The court has asked Nisham to pay damages worth Rs 80 lakh, of which Rs 50 lakh will be handed over to Chandrabose’s family. Public Prosecutor C P Udayabhanu had asked for Rs 5 crore as compensation for the family.
In a fit of rage, Nisham had rammed his Hummer against security guard, and assaulted him later in spite of Chandrabose being severely injured.
On Wednesday, Judge KP Sudheer had pronounced his verdict that Nisham was guilty under various sections of IPC, including 302 (murder), 326 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and 427 (committing mischief).
“The verdict uses the word consecutive and not concurrent. This means he has to spend 38 years in jail,” lawyers said.
Mr Udaybhanu had urged the court to consider Nisham’s past history of crime and give him death penalty.
