Cold wave gripped several parts of Madhya Pradesh, including the state capital, as mercury dropped in the aftermath of rains and hailstorm and return of northern winds even as two people died due to extreme cold weather

Mimba Patel (60) died in Bhopal?s Govindpura Industrial Area yesterday. Likewise, an elderly man perished in Guna.Â
The state government has directed schools across the state to open at 1000 hrs till January 23 in view of the cold weather.Â
Shivpuri was the state?s coldest at five degrees Celsius, which is two marks below normal. The corresponding figure in the Pachmarhi hill station was six C, two notches below normal.Â
The state capital recorded a low 10 C, which is normal, but the maximum was 19.6 C, five notches below normal.Â
The city received drizzle last night and experienced foggy weather this morning. Â Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur experienced a drop in minimum temperature by four to six notches.Â
In the past 24 hours, Rewa, Gudh, Hanumana, Satna, Damoh and Narsinghpur recorded 20 mm precipitation. Â
The corresponding figure in Panna was 10 mm. Hailstorm lashed several places.
During the next 24 hours, Gwalior and Shahdol divisions are likely to experience isolated rain accompanied by hail.Â
Cold wave and dense fog may be experienced in Gwalior, Chambal, Ujjain, Bhopal, Indore and Hoshangabad divisions. The state capital is likely to witness a partial cloud cover and fog.
