People responsible for Rohith's suicide should be punished : Rahul

Addressing the UoH students on the campus after interacting with them about the incident and consoling Ms.Radhika , mother of Rohith, Mr.Gandhi said, the minister in Delhi (without naming the minister) and the UoH Vice Chancellor P Appa Rao  did not act properly in the whole affair.

Describing the scholar's suicide as painful, Mr.Gandhi, who spotted a black ribbon on his white 'kurta' said students should have complete freedom to express their views in the institutions of higher learning.

Mr.Gandhi, who was frequently applauded by students said, universities were meant to impart knowledge to students and there should be no place in these temples of learning, for money, caste, creed and religion.

Earlier,Mr.Gandhi garlanded a brick and mortar memorial erected by the students for Rohith. The Congress Vice President  was accompanied by AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh and party's Telangana-unit President Uttam Kumar Reddy, among other party leaders.

Mr.Gandhi arrived from Delhi shortly after 12 noon by a special aircraft  and drove straight to the UoH campus to interact with the students about the tragic incident.  
Tight security arrangements were made in and around  UoH campus, in view of Mr.Gandhi visit.
