In a joint operation by Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad and Telangana Police, three youths from Hyderabad were on Saturday arrested at the international airport here while they were allegedly on their way to join the terror organisation ISIS.
“We got information that the youth would be boarding the early morning flight from Nagpur to Srinagar,” a senior ATS officer said. “The youth, who came to Nagpur by cab, were handed over to the Telangana Counter-Intelligence cell,” the officer said. They were residents of Humayun Nagar Gulshan Iqbal Colony in Hyderabad and were reported missing, he said. They were planning to board an flight to Srinagar from Nagpur after arriving from Hyderabad on Friday.
Two of them were among four Hyderabad students detained in Kolkata by the Telangana police in September 2014, for allegedly trying to travel to Iraq to join the ISIS. Police sources had said they were neither arrested nor booked then by the police as they had not committed any crime in India. While they were returned to their families, they continued to be under police surveillance.
