Shriya Pilgaonkar’s web series Crackdown premiered on Tuesday and her role of Divya Shirodkar has won the audience’s hearts. An actor, director, producer and a theatre artiste, Shriya says that she believes in the power of storytelling.

“I love storytelling in any form. Be it books or visual medium, storytelling has an incredible power to inspire and change lives. As an actor that has helped me to dabble across different roles,” she begins. As the conversation veers to Crackdown, she says that she is a fan of action genre.

“This is my first action based series, something that I always wanted to explore. Apoorva Lakhia, who is known for Shootout At Lokhandwala has directed the web series and action has been his forte. I was excited when I heard the story and I play two different characters in it, which I can’t reveal now. I trained in hand-to-hand combat and committed a few mistakes though I was confident of delivering the shots. I hope I will put up a better show in future,” she says with a smile.

Shriya will also have a theatrical release in the form of Kaadan in which she plays the lead along with Rana Daggubati. The movie is directed by Prabhu Solomon.

“When it comes to working with Prabhu sir and Rana, I realised that they worked on a subject like Kaadan with so much passion. It has a strong message. Having been exposed to world cinema or south cinema, I was drawn to the way films like Mahanati and Angamaly Diaries were made. I wanted to explore south films and that is when Kaadan came my way. We were supposed to release it in April and don’t know about its release,” she says. Having directed short films and documentaries, she says that when a filmmaker approaches her with a script, she looks at it only from an actor’s perspective.

“As an actor and as an audience, I ask myself if this would resonate with people when they watch it,” she concludes.
