Photo of three ‘dusky’ women a hit for the right reasons
The Indian society is obsessed with fairness. No matter how progressive we may claim to have become, statements like ‘Dark yet beautiful’, ‘I’m worried. Who is going to marry you?’ (from a random stranger aunty you meet at a wedding), or ‘need fair-skinned girl’ on matrimonial websites, feature quite casually in our lives. Racism is so deeply ingrained in the Indian psyche.

However, a recent photo of three darkskinned women that is now going viral, aims to change this very obsession. Shared on a Facebook page called The Uncanny Truth Teller 2, the photo is titled, ‘The Faces of India they won’t show you’, and shows three beautiful women in saris, wearing traditional Indian jewellery and posing for a picture.
Shared thousands of times over, the picture speaks a thousand words, leading many to even call out the discrepancies in Indian minds.
