Book Review: Of unconditional love, its risks and rewards
Two by Two starts like any other simple narrative that talks about the happenings in a young man, Russell Green’s life.
Chennai
Losing his job seems to be a life-changing event, after which he decides to start out on his own. He realises that his once very-happy-to-be-at-home wife starts resenting the fact that they must budget their spending and hence must start working again. The transformation begins for Russ from then, as he struggles to take care of his fiveyear-old daughter, which till then was completely his wife’s department, along with trying to make his business a success.
The family life that he was once secure about does not seem secure at all anymore as his wife gets into an affair. At this juncture, his sister being diagnosed with tertiary stage cancer only makes things worse. Not all is dark though, for he finds a willing shoulder to wail on, in his ex-girlfriend and the single mother of his daughter’s best friend.
The sensitive author that he is, Sparks has told the story of Russell through his transformation from a regular ‘provider husband’ to the caring, single father, supportive brother and loyal son.
He does what is right by his daughter and everything else falls in place… beautifully!
