Wander into a world of arts

Occupying a beautiful three-storeyed bungalow located at the heart of the city, Wandering Artist includes training spaces, performance area and a café. The centre offers classical, folk and contemporary art training programmes across a variety of art forms. The training programmes range from workshops to mid-term to long term courses. There are also intimate performances and talks by artists on how and why they create and the issues that bother them. 

“The main idea is to facilitate a space where creative people can meet, share and teach their learnings – a space that is not prohibitive or intimidating,” says co-founder Sriram Ayer about the centre that is open to both kids and adults, and was recently inaugurated with a performance by eminent pianist Anil Srinivasan. Wandering Artist also has a creative co-working space that invites freelancers, consultants and anyone who wants to work in a less mundane environment. But, there is one condition. 

“We expect people to understand that this is not a place for time pass. It is a platform where we want people to learn, teach and create something new. Irrespective of the length of the workshop, we want participants to perform, inspire and experiment,” adds Sriram. 

The revenue for Wandering Artist will come from trainings and workshops it plans to conduct in collaboration with prestigious artists. The Café will also help in sustaining the movement financially.   It also aims to provide training in arts like pottery that are not often spoken about. “It is important that there is an artist in every household who can create and inspire more to follow suit,” adds Sriram. 

The workshops will go live from February 7, starting with a Kathak course by Amarnath Ghosh, followed by a fine arts workshop by Sandhya Gopinath on February 8, and then a doodling programme by Kirthi Jayakumar. There are also programmes on arts like drawing and contemporary dance.
