CIFF to screen Jayalalithaa’s films as an ode to her
The 14th Chennai International Film Festival has brought in a treasure trove of films from across the globe. The week long festival will see 180 movies from over 85 countries that will be screened in five venues.

From Mais Do Que Eu Possa Me Reconhecer (Brazilian) to Drought and Lies (Iranian), Die Hande Meiner Mutter (German), Pharaoh (Polish) to films closer home Natsamrat (Marathi), Sahaj Paather Gappo (Bengali), Veeram (Malayalam) and Tamil films like Amma Kanaku, Devi, Dharmadurai, Iraivi, Joker; one can pick what they want to watch. The event is being organised by Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) with the support of the Tamil film fraternity.
“Besides screening of the classics from across the globe, there would be curtain-raisers, press meets, cultural shows, panel discussions, exclusive red carpet evening screenings. film lovers can look forward to a complete event centred around global cinema,” informs E Thangaraj, Festival Director, CIFF. As a mark of respect to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation will screen two of her popular films at the festival.
Ayirathil Oruvan, the movie that laid the foundation for the MGR-Jayalalithaa pairing in Tamil cinema, will be screened on January 7 and Suryagandhi will be screened on January 9. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam had earlier presented Rs 50 lakh as the government’s contribution to host the Chennai International Film Festival that started on Thursday.
