Interiors: Cosy up your living room with cushions
Living rooms often become a dumping ground for stuff and the continual wear and tear can make them look a little run down. If chosen correctly, cushions can pull together all the elements of a room and bring harmony to a once busy or mismatched room. Selecting the right cushions for your room can be very difficult and it’s easy to get it wrong.

This step-by-step process will help you to decorate your living room smoothly
How many cushions do you need?Â
In terms of the actual number of cushions you buy, it really depends on the size and number of sofas you have in your living room. In my opinion, three- seaters can take up to 5 cushions, 2 seaters up to 4 cushions and 1 seater just one cushion.Â
If your cushions match your sofa, throw them awayÂ
Having cushions that match your couch is a waste. Add cushions that complement other colours in the room and contrast well with the colours of your couch.
Selecting your cushionsÂ
Select cushions from the colour palette you have chosen. Your cushions don’t need to have all of your colours in them. Choose a cushion that picks up other elements in your room see how the cushions on the sofa pick up the cream from the other couch, the blue from the ottoman and the grey from the bottom half of the wall most of these cushions only have one, or at most 2 of these 3 colours in them. The combination of the 3 colours really pull the whole room together.
Select your colour paletteÂ
Look around and try to identify 2 , 3 colours that meet these criteria. The colour should exist in another element in your room, in a curtain, vase or a painting on the wall or on a coffee table and they must complement each other. Your cushion selection will ultimately be the glue that pulls your living room colours together.
Size matters, actually
Standard square cushions within the exact same shape can start to look a bit clinical and boring. Mix up the size and shape. You might buy two different sized cushions in the same patterned material and then add in some solid colours.
How to arrange cushions on a sofaÂ
If you want a very traditional looking room, then you want to go for the classic one, (one matching cushion at each end) or two. If you want a more modern look, then to mix things a bit.
