Interiors: Give your home a festive makeover
With Deepavali around the corner, most of us are in a fix as to how to decorate our homes and bring in the cheer. Here are some tips on bringing in some light and colour into your homes.
Chennai
Bright furniture: To keep the festive spirit in your home, add accents in bright oranges, yellows, reds and pinks to your living room. Add a bright red wing back chair to your living room corner or a pair of cheerful floral upholstered chairs. You can play around with geometric patterned or floral patterns but keep it bright this season!Â
Ornate furniture: Mirror work really compliments your furniture. Consoles of mirror and mother of pearl inlay look very elegant. Gold and silver leaf furniture looks absolutely stunning, and instantly gives the festive glow to your home. The advantage of such ornate furniture is while being a little costly, they are evergreen, and work all year round. Such statement pieces need small accessories like candles or lamps to add to a touch of Deepavali.
Terrific throws: A throw adds a lot of colour to your furniture. If your chair or sofa is a plain neutral and you feel that the cushions alone are not enough to lend drama then a throw is the right solution for you. There are a number of options available from prints, solids to geometrics. Given the climate in Chennai. Brightly shaded linen throws available  are ideal for your home.
Ethnic cushions: Bring the ‘desi’ feel into your homes, which bright ‘ikkat’ cushions, which also happen to be a running trend in interior design. A cushion is one accessory that can really spruce up your living room or bedroom. You can mix and match different colors, patterns and even sizes together. Choose colours like reds, yellows, emerald green, bright blues  to bring a little light into your home.
Impactful poufs: A brightly colored pouf is a tiny but totally impactful addition to any space. Use bright color upholstery in fiery colors or colorful floral upholstery when designing your pouf. If you want to design a really funky pouf, then upholster each of the six faces of the pouf in a different print, keep a similar colour theme running across the faces. Poufs can be used in your living room as additional seating, or even the foot of the bed.
This Diwali, Interior designers Poonam Jhaver & Amrita Thomas Modi are collaborating to bring you some fabulous customised furniture for your homes. They are also available at ‘Elan’ on appointment this October.Â
