Chennai
If you follow the social media avidly, you would surely have come across Shruti Haasan’s new video that looks at how the word ‘bitch’ is casually used to define women who do not fit the image of ‘ideal women’ and redefines it in her own way. The video, a part of the Unblushed series #bethebitch, features the actress and her husky voice narrating a powerful poem, written by her. Shruti has been receiving accolades for the bold video and winning hearts on the Internet. On being asked about the video, she says, “When I was approached for the video, I agreed immediately as I have liked their previous work with actresses like Kalki Koechlin and Aditi Rao Hydari. The idea of redefining the word ‘bitch’ struck me immediately and when I shared it with the makers, they were on board,” she says.
Shruti explains why a woman deserves to have a respectable place in the society in her video. Talking further about the video, she shares, “One comes across the word ‘bitch’ in daily conversations with friends and family. It is used casually and has a certain negative connotation. I was looking at turning this negativity to something more positive. Personally also, I have always believed in taking criticism in my stride and using it constructively to better myself. When people throw stones at me I just convert them to gold. It is a quality that I have inherited from my dad, Kamal Haasan.” Shruti also tells us that the veteran actor is doing fine now and will be back in action soon. “He has great resilience,” she adds.
Shruti who is quite active on social media, says that social media is a boon as well as a bane. “As I said earlier, people can praise you or criticise you openly on social media. But it is all about taking it in a positive way,” she concludes. The actress who is currently in Hyderabad shooting for Pawan Kalyan’s flick says, “It feels good to share screen space with a talented actor like Pawan Kalyan for the second time. Apart from this, I have S3 and Sabash Naidu in Tamil.”
