Nobel Wall in city highlights Sweden-India ties
The Embassy of Sweden and a well-known shopping mall in the city on Monday jointly inaugurated The Nobel Memorial Wall at the mall. The wall commemorates Indian Nobel Laureates with an aim to further spread awareness about them and their contribution towards society. It will be on display till October 10.

The Nobel Memorial Wall will have portraits of the eight Nobel Laureates from India including Rabindranath Tagore, CV Raman, Dr Hargobind Khorana, Mother Teresa, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Amartya Sen, Venkatraman Ramakrishnan and Kailash Satyarthi and provide information on their life and achievements in their respective fields. Kavita Singhania, Managing Director, Express Avenue Mall and Harald Sandberg, Ambassador of Sweden to India, jointly unveiled the wall on Monday.
“The Embassy of Sweden is commemorating the100th year of the Honorary Consul of Sweden in Chennai this year. We are also celebrating the tenth edition of the Sweden India Memorial Week along with the leading Swedish companies – where we pay tribute to the contribution of Alfred Nobel and the Indian Nobel Laureates, and highlight the importance of innovations. On these two special occasions, I am delighted to inaugurate the Nobel Wall exhibiting the Nobel Prize winners and the great minds that India has given the world,” said Harald Sandberg, Ambassador of Sweden to India. The theme for the tenth edition of The Sweden-India Nobel Memorial Week is ‘Sweden Makes in India’ and the celebrations will take place across cities in India like Indore, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Guwahati and New Delhi.
The Embassy of Sweden and Honorary consul of Sweden has also organised a Swedish Film Festival to celebrate the 100th Year of Honorary Consul of Sweden on Tuesday.
