Actress writes poignant FB post on being ‘roasted’ about her skin colour
An exhaustive Facebook post written by Parched actor Tannishtha Chatterjee in which she questioned, ‘What’s the obsession with white skin?’, after she walked out of a popular show titled Comedy Nights Bachao on Colors, has gone viral across social media platforms.

The actor wrote she couldn’t take the racist ‘jokes’ people cracked in the name of a ‘roast’ and was left angry and disappointed. “I was actually looking forward to be roasted… the only thing they could roast about a dark-skinned actress was of course her dark skin. They could identify me only with that. I could not believe I was sitting in a nationally televised comedy show in 2016 in Mumbai amid such regressive (I can’t call it humour), and blatantly racist content,” she wrote.
At a time when several campaigns like 'Dark is beautiful' and 'Proud Of My Colour' are championing the fight against racism, this incident reinstates that the change in mind-set however has been excruciatingly slow.
Chatterjee rightly added, “In an India of 2016 I still have to be apologetic about my skin tone? What is this white-skin hangover? Where does all our pride as a nation go away when it comes to the acceptance that most of us have a darker skin tone?” And what comes across as nauseating is the fact that the actor was asked by the organisers and even a couple of her friends to “ignore” the incident because it was all in good humour and jest. “Except there is nothing funny about this,” she wrote.
