'Vaikasi Vishakam' is celebrated widely across states and is regarded as Lord Muruga's birthday. In Tamil Nadu, it is celebrated in a grand manner in all the 'Arupadai Veedu' and other temples of Lord Muruga.
Devotees undergo 'Vradha' for Lord Muruga on this auspicious day and take 'Paal kudam'. The 'Vishaka' star falls on this day (Thursday) for the ongoing year, which marks Lord Muruga's birthday. Unfortunately, the temples are closed for devotees for prayers and celebrations due to the Covid-19 spread.
In Mylapore Kapaleeshwarar temple, 'Thirukalyanam' for Lord Murugar has been planned on Friday, owing to Pournami (Full moon day). As devotees are not allowed to enter the temple, online telecast of poojas are being planned by the temple authorities.
The temple authorities have also stated that the popular 'Thiruvannamalai Girivalam' in Arunachaleswarar temple would also see no devotees as the lockdown is still in place.
