Irfan Pathan, one of the best all-rounders Indian cricket has ever produced, is all set to venture into a new turf. The cricketer will be making his acting debut with Vikram 58 in Tamil. The makers made an official announcement on his inclusion in the film on Monday. Talking to DT Next, the leftarm pacer shared his excitement and said, “I’m looking forward to joining the sets of the film soon.” Irfan Pathan and Yuvraj Singh are two Indian cricketers in the late 2000s who have had a huge fan following for their good looks apart from their cricketing skills. On hearing this, Irfan had a good laugh and told us that he has always followed Tamil cinema closely. “Many Tamil films are dubbed in Hindi and are aired on television. I never fail to catch up with them,” he added. Irfan went on to say that Vikram’s Anniyan was one of his favourites. “The film released in Hindi as Aparichit and that’s my favourite Vikram film. Apart from that Superstar Rajinikanth’s films are my favourities,” he said. Speculations started doing the rounds that Irfan would be playing the antagonist in the film. However, he chose to remain tight-lipped about his role.

Vikram 58 went on floors earlier this month and is currently being shot in Chennai. The team will shoot across India and Europe and is expected to release in mid-2020. Produced by Lalith Kumar’s Seven Screen Studio, AR Rahman will compose the music for the film and Sivakumar of Iruddhi Suttru and NGK fame will operate the camera. The makers said that further announcement of the cast and crew will be made soon.
