CHENNAI: Parasakthi, which was facing a possible delay after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) suggested 38 cuts, received its U/A 16+ certificate by Friday (January 9) noon, a day ahead of its scheduled January 10 release. The film's runtime is 2 hours and 43 minutes.
The film ran into censorship trouble earlier after the CBFC withheld certification and recommended 38 cuts. While the director Sudha Kongara opposed the cuts and considered approaching the revising committee, distributor Tirupur Subramaniam had maintained that the film would likely clear censor before Friday noon.
Parasakthi stars Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela, and revolves around the student agitation in Pollachi over Hindi imposition in 1965.
The producers of the film, Dawn Pictures, later shared the news of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) confirming the UA rating online.
While only three theatres in Chennai were listed on Bookmyshow on January 8 for advance booking, on Friday, many more opened up for advance booking following the CBFC certification, which paved the way for its scheduled release on January 10..
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court directed the CBFC to issue a U/A 16+ certificate for Vijay’s Jana Nayagan whose January 9 release was postponed following censor certificate delay. The Board has filed an appeal seeking a stay on the court's order and requested a hearing on Monday (January 12).
