CHENNAI: A saree-clad Krithi Shetty welcomes us with a huge smile at a city hotel. She has amassed a huge fan following with credible works to her name, like Shyam Singha Roy, Bangarraju in Telugu and ARM in Malayalam, among others. Now, she is all set for a journey in Tamil with big films like Vaa Vaathiyaar with Karthi, Genie with Ravi Mohan and LIK with Pradeep Ranganathan. “My characters in all these films are different from one another. They are special to me in different ways. Though I cannot reveal a lot about the stories right now, different directors have different working styles. However, all three are fantasy flicks but different kinds of them. Vaa Vaathiyaar is mystical, LIK is futuristic, and Genie has a magical reality to it. It was nothing less than exciting being on these three sets. Moreover, a lot of creative imagination has gone into the work of these three films,” she begins.

Krithi is a huge fan of actor Karthi and was one even while shooting for Vaa Vaathiyaar. “Once I was shooting with Nadhiya ma’am for Warrior, and I was telling her how big a fan of Karthi sir I am. She immediately made a phone call and had me talk to him. I have been a fan of his since Paiyya. There is a saying in cinema, ‘Never meet your heroes’. But Karthi sir was beyond what I expected. He has stayed humble since the first day we met on the sets of Vaa Vaathiyaar. He asked if I remembered the phone call, and that took me by surprise. Also, being a star, he is secure and gives a good amount of space to his co-actors and makes others feel secure too and wants them to do better,” the actor remarks.

With as many as a dozen films releasing in Tamil and Telugu every week, Krithi says that she doesn’t believe in the rat race. “There is no need for competition as there is a lot of space for everyone in the industry. There are so many good films being made, and I know I can be a part of good projects. The worst thing for me would be not to live up to my potential."

Krithi is also a part of Ravi Mohan’s film Genie, who happens to be a best friend of Karthi. “They both share similar traits. They both exude confidence. Both Karthi and Ravi are happy people, and making their co-star comfortable shows how good they are at their craft,” she adds.

The actor is aware of the current industry trends and says that heroines are an easy target when a film fails. “Which is very unfair. Even today, heroines don’t get a say in films or creativity, but when a movie bombs, they are the ones being blamed, which is upsetting,” she remarks.
