CHENNAI: Passionate about theatre, communication and creative writing, Tasneem Unjhawla has been teaching speech and drama, in affiliation with Trinity College London University, for over two decades. Having resided in Mumbai and directed various children’s plays, she is currently in Santhome, Chennai, and is running her institution under the banner Talkact Productions.
Taneem Unjhawla is organising a two-day art and drama workshop exclusively for kids between the age groups six and 15. “Art helps children to focus and express their emotions through colours. It’s therapeutic. Drama brings their world of expression to life, using emotions both physically and verbally. That is different from the digital world they are being captivated by,” says the instructor.
The event aims to encourage creativity, confidence, and enhance the skills of the kids. The workshop will feature a facilitated play reading session, hands-on creative activities, materials and a handbook provided to all participants, and exclusive preparation for a short performance. “Theatre and training young performers have been an integral part of my life. I love enriching young talents and watching them grow. The joy of seeing them in the professional stage will be quite elating,” she shares. When it comes to the theatre scene in Chennai, Tasneem believes that there should be more performances and workshops to help amateur actors and writers find their space in the world of theatre. The two-day workshop, on December 27 and 28, will take place at Third Environment, Santhome, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.
