Deepavali special buses: Chennai police announce traffic diversions

This year, the State government has planned to operate special buses from Chennai from October 21 to October 23 and for passengers returning from October 25 to October 27.

CHENNAI: In view of Deepavali a large number of people will travel from Chennai to various districts for which special buses are being operated by TNSTC (Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation) and SETC (State Express Transport Corporation) from Chennai.

This year, the State government has planned to operate special buses from Chennai from October 21 to October 23 and for passengers returning from October 25 to October 27.

Special buses are to be operated from six different places- Madhavaram, KK Nagar MTC bus terminus, Tambaram MEPZ Anna bus stand, Tambaram railway station bus stand, Poonnamallee bus stand and Koyambedu bus terminus.

On the above mentioned dates, the Greater Chennai Traffic police have announced traffic diversions to ease flow of traffic. Accordingly, no heavy and light commercial vehicles will be allowed from Maduravoyal bypass towards Koyambedu market on Poonamallee High Road. These vehicles will be diverted at Maduravoyal bypass towards Ambattur to reach their destinations.

No heavy commercial vehicles will be allowed from Madhavaram roundabout and Madhavaram flyover towards Retteri junction on 100 feet Road. They will be diverted towards GNT Road to reach Kavankarai, Redhills and outer ring road to reach their destinations.

No light commercial vehicles will be allowed from Padi flyover towards Thirumangalam on 100 feet Road. They will be diverted at Padi flyover towards CTH road and Nathamuni to reach their destinations.

No commercial vehicles will be allowed from Koyambedu flyover towards 100-feet road. They will be diverted at Poonamallee High Road and EVR Salai to reach their destinations.

No commercial vehicles will be allowed from Mettukulam junction towards Koyambedu flyover. They will be diverted at new bridge to reach their destinations.

No commercial vehicles will be allowed to enter 100 feet road from EVR Salai. They will be diverted at Anna Arch towards 3rd Avenue to reach their destinations.

No commercial vehicles will be allowed from Ashok Pillar towards 100-feet road. They will be diverted at Ashok Pillar towards Ashok Nagar to reach their destinations.

No commercial vehicles will be allowed from 2nd Avenue towards Koyambedu. They will be diverted at R3 Ashok Nagar point towards Ashok Pillar.

No commercial vehicles will be allowed on Kaliamman Koil Street from Reddy Street.

As far as TNSTC , SETC and Omni buses are concerned, all reserved TNSTC, SETC buses from Koyambedu CMBT will take the route of outer ring road to reach Urapakkam temporary bus station to board the passengers reserved from Tambaram and Perungulathur.

As usual SETC buses will take the route via Poonnamallee High Road, Vanagaram, Nazarathpet, Outer ring road and reach Vandalur. These buses will not pass through Tambaram and Perungulathur.

Similarly, omni buses operating from Koyambedu bound for other districts should take the route of Poonnamallee High Road, Vanagaram, Nazarathpet, Outer ring road and reach Vandalur. These buses will not pass through Tambaram and Perungulathur.

Omni buses towards ECR will be permitted via 100-feet road, Kathipara, Guindy, Sardar Patel road (OMR, ECR) subject to the approval by Traffic Police.

Omni buses should avoid boarding points on 100-feet road, Poonamallee High Road in front of CMRL, Alandur Metro, KK Nagar, instead those passengers can be asked to board from Koyambedu or Urapakkam.

As slow movement of traffic is experienced at GST Stretch between Airport to Perungaluthur the private vehicles may use OMR & ECR to reach Chengalpattu, Thiukazhukundram to reach NH 45
