CHENNAI: A 31-year-old DMK panchayat member in Somangalam was hacked to death by a woman bootlegger during broad daylight on Monday after he alelgedly informed the police about her illegal sales of liquor in Naduveerapattu.

The deceased Sathish of Ettayapuram in Naduveerapattu was a ward councillor and the Secretary of the DMK in Naduveerapattu. Police said Lokeshwari Alias Esther (45) of the same locality used to sell liquor in her house illegally for the whole day.

Sathish had warned Lokeshwari several times and also filed a complaint at the police station. Later, Lokeshwari's income was stopped and everyone started to avoid buying liquor from her.

Police said on Monday Lokeshwari, who invited Sathish to her house, locked the door and hacked Sathish to death using a sickle. Police said the woman dragged the body outside the house and then locked the house and escaped from the spot. The Somangalam police sent the body for post-mortem to the Chromepet GH and the search is on to nab Lokeshwari who is missing.

Police said Lokeshwari has already been facing prostitution cases.
