CHENNAI: As many as 13 people were injured after a van collided with a lorry in Padappai, near Chennai on Friday.

Police said Ramalingam of Sholinganallur along with his family and relatives attended a wedding ceremony in Kancheepuram on Friday morning. In the afternoon after the wedding, 15 members in a van were returning to Sholinganallur from Kancheepuram. Around 11 am, when they were on the Walajabad-Vandalur Road near Salamangalam, a sand-loaded lorry, which was coming from behind, rammed into the van. Police said on the impact 12 members, including children, who were inside the van suffered severe injuries and the lorry driver was also stuck between both the vehicles. On information, the Manimangalam police who visited the spot admitted the injured to the Chromepet Government Hospital. The police have registered a case and further inquiry is on. Following the accident, traffic was affected on the Walajabad-Vandalur road for more than an hour.
