Man murdered in Tasmac bar fight in Otteri

CHENNAI: A 35-year-old man was murdered after a bar fight in Otteri on Monday night after an argument with another man in an inebriated state.

Secretariat colony police on Tuesday arrested a 22-year-old youth, H Fayaz of Nammalwarpet near Otteri in connection with the murder.

The deceased, K Kumar, also from the same neighbourhood had come to the Tasmac bar with his friend, Karthik for a drinking session.

Police sources said that an argument broke out between Kumar and Fayaz over stubbing a cigarette bud. The verbal duel escalated into a brawl as all three were in an inebriated. As Kumar and Fayaz were exchanging blows, Fayaz took a knife he was carrying and attacked Kumar with it.

Before the other persons at the bar could catch him, Fayaz fled the scene. Kumar was rushed to a hospital nearby, where he succumbed to his injuries late Monday night. Karthik too sustained minor injuries in the attack. Based on his complaint, Secretariat Colony police registered a case of murder and arrested Fayaz.

He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
