CHENNAI: City Police on Saturday arrested a 28-year-old man who stabbed a worker at a Biryani stall in Periyamet after an argument over Rs.10.

On Friday evening, Mohammad Usman (50), an Uttar Pradesh native who was working as a supplier in a Biryani outlet in Periyamet was serving customers when a man asked for a parcel of chicken biryani.

The man gave Rs.90 to Usman, police said. Usman told the customer that Rs.10 extra is levied for parcel charges and asked him for Rs.100.

The customer was unrelenting and asked for the staff to give the biryani parcel for Rs.90, which led to a commotion there.

As the argument escalated, the customer took a knife he was carrying and inflicted cut injuries on the 50-year-old man and fled the scene.

His co-workers and other customers rescued Usman and moved him to a hospital nearby, where he is being treated.

Based on a complaint from Usman, Periamet police registered a case and arrested A Vignesh, a resident of Naval Hospital (NH) road in Periamet.

He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
