CHENNAI: Customs officials seized 3.08 kg of gold worth Rs 1.38 crore at the Chennai airport from 4 air passengers and arrested two of them on Monday.
Based on intelligence, two passengers Sagul Hameed of Chennai and Raseeth of Tiruchy were intercepted when they arrived from Bangkok and Arunpandian of Chennai, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday and Palanisammy of Pudukkottai who arrived from Dubai were intercepted by the AIU unit on suspicion of carrying gold. Upon their personal search, gold in rubbery spread form was found concealed in their rectum and inside the footwear along with gold bits found concealed in their person which upon extraction resulted in 3.08 kgs of gold valued at Rs 1.38 crore. The same was seized and Arunpandian and Palanisammy were arrested for further inquiry.
