Man attacked with liquor bottles dies; 2 arrested
Six days after a man was attacked with liquor bottles for questioning a duo consuming liquor in the open near Madhavaram, the victim died without responding to treatment.
Chennai: Madhavaram police had already arrested the suspects and now, murder charges have been added to their charge sheet.
The incident happened on April 11 when the victim, A Madhanagopal of Perambur, an auto driver, confronted two men near Retteri traffic signal for consuming alcohol in the open. While an argument broke out between them, the two men followed him in an autorickshaw and developed a quarrel with him again and attacked him with liquor bottles before fleeing the spot.
Madhanagopal was rushed to the Government Stanley Hospital. Madhavaram police registered a case for attempt-to-murder and arrested the suspects, Kuzhandhaivelu (37) and Stephan (32) of Kolathur.
On Friday, Madhanagopal died without responding treatment. The police altered the charges to murder from attempt-to-murder. One of the officials said that Stephan has more than 10 cases pending against him.
