Chennai: City police arrested five men, including college students, for consuming and peddling a drug named Methoxetemine (MEX). While a meagre two grams of the drug and ganja were seized from him, police have launched a hunt for the main supplier who sourced the drug from elsewhere and distributed to peddlers in the city.

Based on a tip-off, Pulianthope inspector Velu and team secured J Joyson (23) of Kathirvedu, a first-year college student, and another 18-year-old college student from the same locality and inquiries revealed they usually purchased the drug from one T Irfan (20) of Pulianthope, who received the contraband from N Rafiullah (21) of Pulianthope. Polie secured all of them and Rafiuallah told police that V Vignesh (24) of Pulianthope supplied the drug to him. Vignesh too was secured and two grams of Methoxetemine was seized from him. While all of them were remanded on Tuesday, police have launched a suspect named Thopppai who is suspected to be the main supplier.

Police said Methoxetamine (MXE) is a dissociative drug effects of which are similar to psychedelics, triggering hallucinations and other changes in thoughts, emotions and consciousness. While police have seized synthetic drugs such as MDMA, LSD stamps, ecstacy pills, Methoxetemine is something that that has been seized recently from peddlers.
