Chennai: Indian billionaire businessman Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, lauded the skills and hardwork of a young boy, M Surendhar, for showcasing his artistic skill through drawing on a busy shopping road in Chennai.

Sitting on a platform with the colour pencils and white papers to draw for customers, who ask him for a sketch of them, until their kin come back after shopping. Anand Mahindra said that he had asked to get a colour portrait of himself sketched by the young artist.

“Another braveheart following the ‘Determination+Ingenuity+Patience=Success' formula. I cheer his sticking to the arts, despite pressure to enter a more lucrative profession. I plan to commission a portrait by sending him a photo,” said the chairman of Mahindra Group Anand Mahindra.

M Surendhar, a final-year visual communication student, is a self taught drawing artist, who started drawing portraits of famous stars and had an idea to earn for a livelihood through this. Surendhar sits near Pondy Bazaar and takes around 10 minutes for him to draw a black and white portraits and 20 minutes for colour drawing. With this, he makes enough to support his family and pay for his college fees and also his personal expenses. His father is a daily wage worker and has been living with his brother.
