CCB closed 80pc of over 10K plaints in 2020

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Greater Chennai Police has received as many as 10,136 complaints of varied nature in 2020 and closed 80 per cent of them, 8,414 to be precise, while just 535 cases were registered.

In connection with the 535 cases, 359 suspects have been arrested and investigation have been completed in 385 cases. Among the 359 arrested suspects, 29 were detained under Goondas Act.

The bank fraud prevention wing in the CCB has attached Rs 2.12 crore in connection with various cases, while Rs 40 lakh has been retrieved and handed over to the victims who lost their savings. The wing has also seized 17 cars, 75 sovereigns and 100 mobile phones of the accused.

Meanwhile, Rs 50 lakh was seized from accused arrested by the job racket wing in 2020. Also, the two land grabbing cells have seized properties worth Rs 35.50 crore from fraudsters.
