Margazhi village festival promotes Folk arts

The DakshinaChitra campus used to be filled with performing artistes and visitors during this period. But due to certain restrictions, this year, the events will be held only on weekends.

“The upcoming events are Kerala (January 8-10) and Andhra village festivals (January 22-24). Panchavadyam and chendamellam will be the highlight of the Kerala fest and garagalu dance by Sri Vijaya Durga Natya Brundam will be organised for the Andhra fest. For Pongal (January 14-17), there will be a folk dances including karagattam, poi-kal kuthirai and mayilattam. Traditional games will also be held. DakshinaChitra is an open museum spread across 10-acre land — since it is an open area, people are coming and watching our programmes. Moreover, everyone is waiting for the right opportunity to step out of the house. We are following all sanitation protocols,” Gita Hudson, program officer at DakshinaChitra, tells DT Next.
