Violence claimed first victims of 2021 in the city as two persons were murdered in separate incidents as a fallout of quarrel in the wee hours of Friday as their New Year celebrations turned sour.

In the first incident in Ayyappanthangal, a 24-year-old assistant director of a TV serial was stabbed to death. The deceased was identified as V Rudran of Srideevikuppam, Vasaravakkam.

Rudran had gone to a friend’s place in Ayyappanthangal where they were having dinner and drinks. After a couple of drinks, Rudran and Manikandan, another assistant director, went to the parking lot in the apartment complex to smoke, where they quarrelled over certain issues.

Manikandan later came back to the apartment, took a kitchen knife and stabbed Rudran on his chest. Though a bleeding Rudran was taken to a private hospital and later to KMC, doctors could not save him. Mangadu police have nabbed Manikandan.

In the second incident, a 56-year-old man who was consuming liquor with two others was stabbed to death with a beer bottle after a quarrel erupted between them on Thursday night in Nungambakkam. The deceased was identified as Khadar, a real-estate broker, of Kamdhar Nagar. He was invited for drinks by Palani and Murugan, two brothers known to him in the neighbourhood.

Even as they were consuming alcohol, the brothers allegedly picked up a fight with Khader and stabbed him to death, police said. A police team from Nungsmbakkam police station, which rushed to the spot on information, shifted the body to a government hospital and is on the lookout for the absconding brothers.
