The state government seems to be on GO and tender releasing spree as it will not be in a position to make crucial decisions after February owing to model code of conduct to be implemented by Election Commission of India.

The latest is the order increasing prices of Amma Cement following requests from manufactures supplying the cement for the goverment scheme. The hike is being effected after five years had revised cost of subsidised cement bags (50 kg) from Rs 190 to Rs 216. government order issued by industries dept secretary N Murugan said that the seven companies supplying cement had urged the price revision. During virtual meet held between Tamil Nadu Cement Corporation Ltd (Tancem) and manufacturers, the supplier pointed out that the cost of diesel which was Rs 51.34 in 2015 has increased to 79.23 which is a hike of 54 pc. Then salaries and other input costs had surged by 15 pc forcing the state to consider the request from industries, GO read.

Suppliers wanted the price to be revised to Rs 230 but the government has revised it to Rs 216, which includes Rs 6 for storage, GST and TANCEM administrative charges.
