A Class 12 girl committed suicide by hanging at her house in Kancheepuram on Monday after her parents allegedly scolded her for mobile phone addiction.

The deceased A Pooja (17), a resident of Kotrampalayam Street near Rangasammy Kulam was studying in a government girls school in the locality and was spending most of her time on a smartphone without attending to any other work in the house.

On Monday her parents scolded her and asked her not to use smartphone hereafter. Pooja then went inside her room and since there was no response even after them calling out for her, they broke open the door and found Pooja hanging from the ceiling on her dupatta. Though she was rushed to a private hospital nearby she was declared brought dead. 
On information, Vishnu Kanchi police visited the spot sent the body for postmortem to the Kancheepuram government hospital. The police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
