Gang hurls stones at moving car, relieves two of cell phones

A three-member gang hurled stones at a moving car and robbed two men in the car of their mobile phones in Ayanavaram in the zero hours of Monday.

The victims Santhosh of Ayanavaram and Ranjith were returning home in the former’s car after meeting their friend. Unidentified men hurled stones at the car at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar around 12.30 am and when they stopped the car, three men approached them and threatened them at knifepoint to part with their mobile phones.

Based on a complaint, ICF police have registered a case. This is said to be the fourth incident at the same spot in the last few months and a few history-sheeters in the locality is said to be behind these offences. Residents complain that despite repeated cases police are yet to arrest the criminals involved.

Meanwhile, a college student was attacked and robbed of his mobile phone and cash by a bike-borne gang in Thoraipakkam on Sunday night. The victim Parvesh (22) of Sirkazhi is said to be a student of a private college on ECR and the incident happened when he was walking to his rented premises after reaching the city by bus.

Six men on two bikes allegedly surrounded him on Kalaignar Karunanidhi Salai and robbed him of his mobile phone, cash and wristwatch after attacking him.

Based on his complaint, Semmanchery police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the suspects.
