While discussing with them, they suggested Parul the idea of bringing out an authentic Gujarati cookbook. After four years of work, Parul launched her coffee table cookbook titled Parul’s Magic — Everyday Delicious easy-to-cook Gujarati dishes. “I used to meet S Muthiah, chronicler of Madras, for work and one day, I casually told him that I wished to write a cookbook. He encouraged me to write a book but I wasn’t quite sure about it. Cooking a dish and writing about it in detail are different. A few months later, Muthiah sir introduced me to food writer Chandra Padmanabhan. I met her and she started guiding me. She gave suggestions/ corrections and made me more aware of how the cookbook should be written; she explained the dos and don’t. While preparing the dishes I made sure that the ingredients are universally available,” says Parul. The cookbook has 142 recipes with 45 pictures.
